Australia’s leading organic baby skincare brand, GAIA, launches in Sri Lanka

GAIA, the trusted natural and organic skincare range in Australia, with a global presence in over 23 countries, held their grand launch event in Sri Lanka, at the Hilton Colombo, on the 19th of August with exclusive agency partners Nyth Global Venture Pvt. Ltd.

Established by Directors, Fazal Ahamed and Mifra Sadikeen, Nyth Global Venture Pvt. Ltd. was created with the goal of partnering with renowned, world-class quality, natural and organic  brands to cater to the niche yet growth intensive Sri Lankan market for toxin free, natural products. Committed to quality and excellence, the company partners with institutions that create natural and extraordinary products and services, while reducing their impact on the environment through green practices.

Nyth Global Venture Pvt. Ltd. launched GAIA, in Sri Lanka with its founder Michelle Vorginec, as they felt that there was a gap in the market for this segment of high quality, naturally derived, certified organic, thoughtfully designed, innovative, and safe skincare products.

The certified organic oils and unique blends of pure and natural ingredients used in all GAIA products mean that they are incredibly safe and gentle to use and don’t contain any hidden toxins and irritants that are harmful. Perfect for use on your baby and children’s sensitive skin as well as mums to be, especially since your skin absorbs about 60 percent of what’s applied on it.

GAIA products have been winners of several prestigious Australian and international  awards since its inception to date, including Mother and Baby, My child excellence awards, Cozycot parenting and more.

Speaking to the press and invited guests GAIA Skin Naturals’ founder Michelle Vorginec said, “We believe that what you put on your body is just as important as what you put in it, which is why all our ingredients are natural and toxin free. Our products use certified organic oils and are not tested on animals, which mean they are ‘cruelty free’ and ‘vegan friendly’.”

GAIA was founded by Michelle as her eldest son suffered, like many children do, from eczema. Unable to find products that didn’t irritate or dry her baby’s skin she created her own and GAIA Natural Baby was born. Following on the success of this, GAIA Pure Pregnancy, HIT NITZ 4 6, Skin + Body ranges were created.

Mifra Sadikeen of Nyth Global Ventures, being a mother to young children herself, felt an intense responsibility to give them the best possible start, which included using natural, toxin free products on her beautiful babies. When researching products of this nature she came across GAIA Skin Naturals and loved using their products as much as her children did, and they did exactly what they promised. This tried and tested personal experience with GAIA turned her into a passionate advocate for the use of natural and organic skincare products.

Today, many parents are inundated with advice on what to feed their children and how to create safe home environments for babies, but many are still completely unaware of the potential risks posed by everyday basics, body washes and other essential cosmetics. Yet, there’s growing concern that some ingredients used in these products may be inflammatory, toxic and cause a host of diseases including cancer.

GAIA creates natural, toxin-free products specifically targeted to moisturize and are free from ingredients  known to irritate sensitive skin, making it eczema friendly.

The GAIA range of products in Sri Lanka include the Natural Baby  bath and body washes, shampoo, wipes, talc-free powder, body lotion, massage oil, soothing cream and more. The Pure Pregnancy range includes the belly butter, nipple cream and belly oil. There is also the extremely effective and successful HIT NITZ 4 6 range which provides an easy, toxin free, two-step system to help control head lice. All these products are available online at www.gaia.lk with island wide delivery, at selected Healthguard outlets and at MILK at 44A Horton Place, Colombo 07.

Nyth Global Venture was set up with the ethos of bringing award winning, natural and organic brands to mums in Sri Lanka, keeping them and their precious bundles of joy, happy and safe from harmful toxins. They strongly believe in helping parents give their children a better, safer start.

Traditional Rice: A Precious Part of Our Nation’s Health and Wealth

Rice has been cultivated in Sri Lanka for almost 3000 years and to this day remains a fundamental food in many of our cultural cuisines. Rice in Sri Lanka has played a prominent role in our country’s history, economy, agriculture and most importantly our health and survival for centuries.

Scientifically termed Oryza Sativa, traditional rice is considered as one of the most nutritious staple foods. Historical records have indicated that varieties of traditional rice were revered among the ancients for their nutritional and medicinal purposes. In the past Sri Lanka was known to have produced over 2000 varieties of indigenous rice however, by the 20th century the number had dwindled to 567. This is mostly due to the growing ignorance among the general public of the importance and value of traditional rice, especially when it comes to matters of health and nutrition.

In the olden days ailments such as heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes etc. were almost unheard of. Our ancestors lived long, wholesome and healthy lives. Specialists have credited this to the diet followed by our forebears, in which rice took the place of honor.

In general traditional rice has been medically proven to; help reduce, and in some cases prevent, diabetic conditions, minimize cardiovascular conditions, contain antioxidant properties and a low glycemic index, prevent fatty liver, be the best known source of Vitamin B, aid in muscle recovery, reduce or completely prevent blood sugar, be rich in fiber and selenium, and to contain zero cholesterol. Indigenous rice has also been known to prevent gallstones and breast cancer.

Varieties such as Ma-Wee have been recommended for tuberculosis patients and to be effective remedies for purging, constipation and hemorrhoids. Ma-Wee is also known for its importance in religious ceremonies. While other varieties like Kaluheenati are known for their high fiber content and serving as an effective means of controlling the toxic effects of snakebites.  Physicians also recommend Kaluheenati to hepatitis patients and lactating mothers. This particular variety is also said to enhance physical strength and male sexual potency. Pachchaperumal is a type of traditional rice known to be rich in nutrients and protein, while such varieties as Madathawalu are highly recommended in Ayurveda treatment to strengthen the immune system.

The list of benefits offered by indigenous rice is almost endless. Every variety of rice is known to play a role in developing the human body, boosting the immune system and preventing various illnesses.

Today it is a well-known fact that people do not enjoy the same healthy and wholesome lifestyle as their forefathers. People get sick quite often while terms such as ‘high blood pressure’, ‘diabetes’, ‘blood sugar’ and the dreaded ‘cancer’ have become common terms that are used much too often for one’s liking. Health is a greater rarity than wealth in society today and it is all due to the ignorance of people of the valuable assets at their disposal.

By educating the masses on the value and benefits of traditional rice, SLT hopes to promote the standard of health among the citizens of Sri Lanka while also ensuring the preservation of a priceless part of our national heritage. For this reason has SLT published the organization’s annual calendar under the theme “Traditional Rice”, with each month being dedicated to a variety of indigenous rice. The country’s leading ICT Solutions provider also plans to begin a campaign in order to educate, encourage and reward farmers, whilst also promoting awareness among the masses and thus ensuring the preservation and continued development of one of Sri Lanka’s most prized possessions.

Tiesh celebrates the Sri Lankan woman with a timeless Filigree Gold collection

Tiesh, one of Sri Lanka’s leading contemporary jewellers celebrated the quintessential Sri Lankan woman with the launch of a dazzling range of imported Italian filigree jewellery with intricate and exquisite craftsmanship.

The exclusive champagne soirée at its flagship showroom at 253, RA de Mel Mawatha was an exclusive Ladies-Only event, to mark International Women’s Day and celebrated its loyal female clients who have steadfastly supported them over the past year.

“This is a collection specially imported from the best Italian manufacturers with the modern Sri Lankan lady in mind. Every piece is unique and totally different to the other. In fact what’s interesting about this collection is its special transformative aspect, where for instance a piece could be worn either as a necklace or a bracelet. Our very special ring which transforms into a bangle is by far the hottest item from our new collection and, I believe, a must have this season” said De Fonseka.

This dazzling Italian filigree collection comprises necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pendants and rings, all of which bring out the sheer intricacy and timeless appeal of the magic of filigree work. With the special transformative jewellery too, it is quite different to the other collections that Tiesh generally showcases.

“This collection has been created with the intention of capturing the raw beauty of pure gold. Most items in the new collection are in 22kt and 18kt Gold – Yellow, White and the ever-so-popular Rose Gold. Small wonder then that this collection both tantalises and appeals to the visual and creative senses of the discerning woman”, De Fonseka added.

Derived from the Latin word “filum” (meaning thread), filigree is an ancient art form that has been appreciated as far back as 2500 B.C. Twisted and formed to closely resemble lace, filigree refers to the openwork design of an exquisitely entwined bouquet of fine silver, gold or other metal threads. This lacing of metal was originally used to decorate personal ornaments including manuscript covers, armor, crosses and royal crowns. (Source – the Internet).

Tiesh is a highly focused family entrepreneurship with a fine heritage of high quality jewellery and impeccable craftsmanship. Founder / Managing Director Lasantha De Fonseka and his wife Bryony are today joined by the equally hands-on second generation, daughter Thiyasha and son Ayesh who ensure that every piece is unique and thus special. Each stone, and then each piece, passes through the eagle-eye scrutiny of the De Fonseka Family which takes a personal interest from the purchasing of stones through the entire production process up to the finished product.

As one of Sri Lanka’s leading contemporary jewelers based both in Colombo and at No 676, Peradeniya Road Kandy, Tiesh is not only a jewellery store with a reputation to match. It is also an engaging and hands-on learning experience. A preferred destination by a large numbers of foreign visitors, it houses a gemological museum, a testing laboratory, an auditorium, a jewellery workshop and a replica of a gem mine which is a draw among both local and foreign clients.
